The Learning and Teaching Academy (LTA) was established in 2019 to support the Heriot-Watt’s ambition to be Pioneering in Education and to realise the Inspiring Learning vision of the Learning and Teaching Strategy 2019-2025. The academy’s work is framed by a commitment to building a global community in which excellence in teaching and inspiring learning is recognised, celebrated, shared and applied.
Design
A look and feel which was an extension to Heriot-Watt’s parent brand, this identity was spun out across numerous assets.
The LTA swiftly reacted to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns in 2020. Online learning and teaching was supported with the creation of numerous guides by the team. I worked at pace to ensure these were created and in the hands of academic staff and their students.
The teams work was awarded the Association of Learning Technologists (ALT), Team of the Year Award 2021 and I am hugely proud to have contributed to its success.
The Watt Works Quick Guides. These resources for Digital education consider a wide range of digital education practices, providing ideas for how to blend digital education into teaching and to provide inspiring teaching and learning.
The Supporting Student Learning Online (SSLO) Toolkit was developed in March 2019 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic move to online learning. The resources were designed for those colleagues rapidly responding to the move to online learning, potentially for the first time.
Responsive Blended Learning (RBL) was adopted in June 2019 as the Heriot-Watt approach to learning and teaching during the pandemic. Extensive resources were designed to support the implementation of RBL, including a range of staff RBL guides and RBL resources to share with students.
RBL was replaced in May 2022 by Globally Connected Learning as the core teaching model at Heriot-Watt University.
